European Sacred Music, 1550–1800: New Approaches

Call for papers
The congress aims at opening an international and innovative debate on the present perspectives of research in the field of sacred music. The congress will be organised in thematic sessions, the main focus being on the complexity of methodological discourse.
Principal thematic areas include:
– Music, liturgy, devotion: a performative phenomenon
– Production, circulation and consumption
– Transconfessionality and migration of models
– Sacred, secular: identity, limits and transfers
– The past in the past: longue durée, historicism, historiography.
The congress is organised by the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), with the collaboration of the Institute of Musicology of Weimar-Jena (Germany), the University of Venice, the Fondazione Levi and the Fondazione Cini, Venice (Italy).
The congress will take place at the University of Fribourg between Thursday, 10 June and Sunday, 13 June 2010.
Proposals are invited for individual papers. Accepted languages are German, French, English and Italian.
The abstract should be complete with name, institution, postal address, phone no., and email address of the author and may be submitted electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org before 30 November 2009.
Schedule: 30 November 2009: deadline for abstracts (max. 250 words) 10 January 2010: publication of the programme on the congress website (www.unifr.ch/art/musicasacra2010) 20 May 2010: deadline for the texts for the ‘conference book’ (max. 15'000 char.)
