I am seeking one or two co-panelists for a panel on the history of Canadian and Northern tourism in Florida. My own paper looks at the changing relation between Florida and the North during the post-1945 years, through the experience of Northern snowbirds. As Florida grew since the 1940s, its leaders have had to address increasingly complex demands from an increasingly diverse population, and demands stemming from the perils of vanishing natural resources, and from the impatience of Floridians with the state's dependency on tourists. As the Florida Dream grew diverse and complex, and as Paradise seemed lost, Florida slowly turned away from tourism.
