The SW/TX PCA/ ACA invites papers on ANY aspect of United States Presidents in Film
The release of Oliver Stone’s W, Nixon/Frost, successful television series on John Adams and Ronald Regan, and recent books like American Presidents on Film, Hollywood’s White House, and Hollywood Goes to Washington, show us that there is tremendous interest in the United States Presidency.
The area chair seeks presentations on any aspect of the Presidents and film. Some questions one might consider include
Why Abraham Lincoln has been the most used President on film
Errors in films about the Presidents
Portrays of Presidents by certain actors (ie., Josh Brolin as George W. Bush, or Gary Sinese as Harry S Truman, or Nick Nolte as Thomas Jefferson)
The Lack of certain Presidents on film (Millard Fillmore, Calvin Coolidge)
The difference in television series and feature films related to the Presidents.
Why was the John Adams television series so successful and acclaimed?
Documentaries related to Presidents (ie., Ken Burns Jefferson)
The American Experience series on the Presidents (PBS)
The difference between the general PBS series on the Presidents and the History channel Presidents series (There are numerous differences in tone of content that deserve a comparison)
Early footage of Presidents (eg., McKinley, Roosevelt, Wilson, Taft, Harding)
ANY IDEA or TOPIC will be considered.
