On September 17, 2009, the Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley will host the conference "Dynamics Across the Taiwan Strait 1949-Present," an examination of Taiwan's history and current outlook in the light of on-going and evolving relations with China, and Taiwans political culture, democratic practice, and the negotiation of identity. Former Vice-President of Taiwan, Dr. Lien Chan will deliver the keynote address, "Sixty Years of Cross-Strait Relations: From Conflict to Conciliation."
