In seeking to increase the amount of evidence-based policy relevant research being produced in the SADC Region, in going forward the Database will be focusing on using trade and related data in the production of some key research pieces. As such, under the auspices of the SADC Trade Database Project, sponsored by AUSAID we invite submission of proposals/abstracts around proposed research papers. Successful candidates will receive a research grant of up to ZAR20,000, motivated by a budget.
The key elements of qualification for funded papers will be around their theme, as it pertains to trade-related policy analysis, as well as the analytical nature of the paper, which must have a quantitative element to it, using trade data sourced from the Database, or alternative sources such as UN Comtrade, ITC, etc.
Possible themes include:
• Trade and poverty;
• Trade and employment;
• Trade and inequality;
• Trade policy and trade flow analysis;
• Trade and Investment;
• Trade and industry structure;
• Trade flows and tariff changes;
• Trade Data and Data Challenges;
• Trade and Climate Change/the environment.
Closing date for proposals/abstracts: Closing date for final papers:
Monday 31st August 2009 Monday 16th November 2009
