The 2010 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held February 10 - 13, 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Proposals are now being accepted for review for the Film (General) Area. 20-minute presentations ranging from critical essays to analyses employing recognized research methodologies are sought.
Listed below are some suggestions for possible individual presentations, but topics not included here are also welcome.
The black and white aesthetic: pre-1960s or post-1960s
Ideological themes in contemporary films
The film flashback: weak script device or important narrative tool?
Subtext no more: special effects as the dominant message in contemporary films
Horror remakes
OR, consider a contribution to this year’s conference theme: Science Fiction and Fantasy Films as Popular Culture. Some suggestions:
The best SF films - and why! (Panel possibility - see below)
Critical themes in animated films
Fantasy film worlds as insights into contemporary culture
If you are interested in presenting in the Film (General) Area, submit a proposal with these items:
100-250 word abstract, including paper/presentation title
Current curriculum vitae
Working bibliography for your paper
