Journeys in the transition of Spanish architecture towards modernity.
May 6-May 7 2010
Traveling has always been an important channel for the transmission and communication of the findings and novelties in all the realms of culture. In given moments of civilizations, this becomes especially important, when transcendental changes happen they might take shape in some places before others, and they become novelties everybody longs and is ready for. Therefore anyone’s finding anywhere is quickly assimilated by everybody else, like a fire in the woods. Journeys become the wind that propagates it, thrusting the sparks.
The Congress focuses on the concept of the journey as a cultural action and how the movement of information towards Spain during the beginning of the modern movement happened, through the journeys of some of its major figures. Those ourneys had very different aims and lengths: simple pleasure, political, economical, artistic reasons... But the fact is hat, with two wars in the backdrop, they had their influence in the doing of a group of good architects working in the 50s, appearing from out of nowhere, who became the masters of the excellent Spanish architects of the 80s and 90s.
