The departments of economics, law, social sciences and cultural studies at Goethe University Frankfurt have joined their forces to create a new interdisciplinary M.A./PhD program on Modern East Asian Studies (MEAS). The biennial M.A. program is open to applicants with a B.A. degree in economics, law or social sciences and to students with a background in East and South East Asia related culture and language studies (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Bahasa Indonesia/Bahasa Malaysia). In the first year, students with a background in economics, law or social sciences will concentrate on the adoption of one Asian language. Students with language skills in at least one Asian language equivalent to the proficiency adopted in the course of a three years bachelor program in East Asian or South East Asian studies will be introduced into the methodologies and concepts of economics, law or social sciences. Moreover, all students are required to jointly participate in a core program, and a number of elective courses and seminars. During two years of intensive studies, students will not only mature to experts on modern East Asia, but also develop methodological, theoretical as well as soft skills in interdisciplinary team work. The start of the program is scheduled for the winter term 2009/2010. For more information, please visit our website or contact the program coordinator.
