The City of Cambridge Archives Board invites you to join them on October 17, 2009 for History on the Grand: Industry and the Environment.
The theme of this year’s symposium, “Industry and the Environment,” speaks to a topic that is relevant and significant in both a historical perspective and to the current community. We have a wide variety of presenters and papers that discuss the history of industry in southwestern Ontario, historical perspectives concerning the local environment, both built and natural, and especially the intersections, dynamics and conflicts between industry and the environment in this area. Dr. Thomas McIlwraith, professor emeritus with the University of Toronto Department of Geography, will be giving the keynote address. Paper sessions, refreshments, lunch and historical walking tours are included with your registration.
We invite members of the academic community, historical and heritage groups and the general public who are interested in the history and heritage of the city and the surrounding area to explore some of the many issues arising from the study of local history and from efforts on behalf of historical preservation and the conservation of our built and natural heritage.
The one-day local history symposium will take place from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture, 7 Melville Street South in Downtown Cambridge Ontario. History on the Grand is sponsored by the City of Cambridge, the Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation, the Network in Canadian History and Environment, and Greentec International. Registration forms and more information can be found on the City of Cambridge website.
