Pompeii: Open Access Journal dedicated to the Publication of Junior Scholars: Call for Contributions, New Members for our Editorial Board and Reviewers
Call for Contributions, New Members for our Editorial Board and Reviewers
Pompeii (founded in 2007) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated exclusively to the publication of junior scholars (from graduate students to non-tenure track assistant professors, etc.).
We call to junior scholars looking for an opportunity to get published to check with our publication guidelines for compatibility at www.pompeii-project.webs.com.
We call to scholars at all career stages (past their PhD) to join our editorial board or serve as peer-reviewers.
Mission Statement:
It is a fact that it has become increasingly difficult for junior scholars to get published in academic journals, which is the necessary step towards creating a successful career in the academic world. At the same time, the internet provides various opportunities to "just publish" any kind of unsolicited and non-reviewed opinion piece. Our mission is, therefore, to help junior scholars to publish and promote their own research in a forum that guarantees quality and proper review.
To allow for a wide thematic scope of publications, we have structured the journal into streams. Additionally, we will consider the publication of photo-essays, posters, and video-documentaries.
At this time we offer the following streams:
Stream 1: Politics for the Post-American Century
Stream 2: Reforming Education
Stream 3: The Critique of Entertainment
Stream 4: Social Histories
Stream 5:Perspectives of Science
Stream 6: Sex&Society
Stream 7: Cave-Exits
We also offer a General Stream to allow for the publication of research or commentary of outstanding quality, which cannot be placed inside any of the thematic streams.
Additionally, we accept book reviews of two kinds: Contemporary (publication within the last four years) and Suggested Re-Reread (no publications younger than 1960).
Students who wish to publish a paper should consult with their professors. We are in the process of creating section for outstanding student papers. However, student publications will only be considered with an endorsement of the work by the academic supervisor.
Publications in English are strongly encouraged. However, we do consider publications in German, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, and Dutch (consult publication guidelines for details).
Duties of Peer-reviewers:
Peer-Reviewers should expect to review at least one and at best three manuscripts per year, relative to their field of expertise and time constraints.
Duties of Members of the Editorial Board:
Members of the Editorial Board are requested to provide active and creative discussion about the future direction of the journal. Ideally, a board member will take charge of an existing stream or suggest a new stream. The members are supposed to create and maintain relations between their academic and public networks and the journal. Board members should, ideally, be willing to advise contributors with outstanding articles towards further research opportunities or book publications.
Duties of Members of the Review-Board:
The Review Board serves an advisory function. Next to founding members of Pompeii, the review board is reserved for distinguished senior colleagues They may wish to engage in all the functions of an Editorial Board member, but are not required to do so. Their service lies in helping promote the journal by adding recognition and identity.
