The Australian War Memorial is convening this two-day conference to bring together eminent historians specialising in the medical and demographic consequences of warfare, medical practitioners and researchers in the field of military medicine, former and serving medical officers, surgeons, nurses and veterans. They will explore the impact of war, wounds and trauma through the historical record and personal experiences.
Keynote speakers include Professor Jay Winter (Yale University) on Shell Shock and the shadow of the Great War, Professor Paul Weindling (Oxford Brookes University) on Nazi human experiments and the replication of war wounds, Squadron Leader sharon Cooper (Royal Australian Air Force) on Military nursing in Afghanistan, 2008, and Dr Keith Horsley on Veterans' health: the long term effects of war service on Australian veterans of conflicts in Korea, Vietnam and Iraq.
