SW/TX PCA/ACA 31st Annual Conference Albuquerque, NM February 10 - 13, 2010
It is time once again to send in your proposals for the Southwest/Texas Popular and American Cultures Associations Conference!
Last year's Punk Area was a big hit and we are looking forward to expanding in 2010. Scholars from across various disciplines presented papers on a number of issues related to Punk Rock. The Punk Planet panel is part of the larger Punk Area at SW/TX PCA/ACA. If you are working on a project about various aspects of Punk around the world, we encourage you to send a proposal. Proposals for the Punk Planet panel can include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Specific punk locales, historic or current (CBGB & OMFUG in NYC, 924 Gilman Street in Berkley CA, the Metroplex in Atlanta, The Roxy in London, etc)
- Specific types of punk locales, not specific to one city or scene but found in many (punk squats, houses, clubs, coffee shops, corners, dives, bars, retail spaces, zine and magazine offices, pubs, bridges, street corners, bedrooms, studios, etc)
- Specific punk scenes, especially those not currently on the radar (London, New York, LA, DC, Sydney, San Francisco, Berlin and Paris of course, but also Milan, Atlanta, Memphis, Salt Lake City, Beirut, Tel Aviv, Pristina, and Moscow)
- Transnational connections between scenes (the connections made by zines, tape trading networks, independent punk record labels, independent distribution operations, travel networks, etc)
- Punk music as interpreted through a particular culture, regardless of actual locale (Celtic Punk, Gaelic punk, Gypsy Punk, Taqwacore, etc)
We encourage entries that are historical or theoretical and current in nature, those that touch on the various interest of the very diverse Punk community around the world. We strongly encourage submissions from Graduate students as well as independent scholars.
The deadline for submissions is December 15th, 2009. Proposals of 200-250 words and a copy of your current curriculum vitae, as well as any questions you may have, should be sent via e-mail to both:
