Before and Beyond Auschwitz
New conflicts and alternative routes among exclusion, identity and diversity
Studies and reflections on Auschwitz (seen) as a paradigmatic event concerning the building and the destruction of both historical and political categories have thoroughly inquired into origins and effects far beyond the 20th-century horizon. These study days aim to propose a re-evaluation of those circumstances (historical, social, political, cultural, philosophical) which, even through progressive dissipations of the sense of (human) limits, led to the formation of regimes where everything seemed possible.
Together with this analysis aimed at confronting different approaches and disciplines we attempt to look into the Contemporaneity, especially the new conflicts often accompanying forms of identity closure, in the light of those exclusion/discrimination models which frequently concern the tout court differences. The intent to go beyond Auschwitz, revitalizing an idea of remembrance that is not merely conservative but try to link up with the Contemporaneity, leads to study those forms of conflict oppositions, from the peace movements to the non-violence, grown during the 20th century.
Within this more general framework the following topics will be closely discussed:
• Minority exclusion and discrimination
• Gender violence: woman as subject and object of totalitarian regimes
• Peace movements and pacifism
• Identity and politics: gender, ethnic and social class
• New conflict opposition forms after Auschwitz and Hiroshima
• Conflicts in the contemporary world
• Biopolitics of field
All research workers, scholars and specialists interested in the convention themes are invited to debate these topics in order to foster confrontation among different prospects and viewpoints on branches of learning.
Who wants to participate in one of the thematic workshops is invited to present an abstract of his/her own speech (max 300 words) not later than September 30, 2009. Proposals must be sent to: csgeneremc@gmail.com or faxed to 0039 0733 258 2551.
Only the abstracts in Italian or English language containing name and surname, email address, speech title and a brief curriculum vitae et studiorum (max 2000 characters, spaces included) will be accepted.

Nuovi conflitti e percorsi altri tra esclusione, identità e differenza
Attorno ad Auschwitz come evento paradigmatico del costruirsi e dello sfaldarsi di categorie tanto storiche quanto politiche si sono condensati studi e riflessioni che ne hanno indagato ampiamente origini ed effetti ben al di là dell’orizzonte novecentesco. L’intento di queste giornate di studio è quello di proporre una rilettura di quelle circostanze (storiche, sociali, politiche, culturali, filosofiche) che, anche attraverso progressive dissipazioni del senso dei limiti, hanno avviato a regimi in cui tutto è apparso possibile. A questa analisi, che si propone di mettere a confronto discipline e approcci differenti, si vuole affiancare un tentativo di guardare alla contemporaneità, segnatamente ai nuovi conflitti che non di rado accompagnano forme di chiusura identitaria, alla luce di quelle modalità di esclusione/discriminazione che investono spesso le differenze tout court. L’intento di andare oltre Auschwitz, rivitalizzando un’idea di memoria non meramente conservativa ma che tenti di stabilire raccordi con l’oggi, induce a guardare a quelle forme di opposizione ai conflitti, dai movimenti pacifisti alla non violenza, che si sono raffinati nel corso del Novecento.
All’interno di questa cornice di carattere più generale potranno essere affrontate in maniera più specifica le seguenti tematiche:
• Esclusione e discriminazione delle minoranze
• Violenza di genere: donna come soggetto e oggetto dei totalitarismi
• Pacifismo e movimenti per la pace
• Identità e politica: classe, etnia e genere
• Nuove forme di opposizione ai conflitti dopo Auschwitz e Hiroshima
• Conflitti nel mondo contemporaneo
• Biopolitica del campo
I ricercatori, gli studiosi e gli operatori interessati ai temi del convegno sono invitati a confrontarsi con tali riflessioni al fine promuovere il confronto fra sguardi e prospettive disciplinari differenti.
Quanti intendano partecipare ad uno dei workshop tematici sono invitati a presentare, entro e non oltre il 30 settembre 2009, un abstract del proprio intervento (max 300 parole). Le proposte andranno spedite a: csgeneremc@gmail.com o via fax allo 0039 0733 258 2551.
Saranno accettati soltanto gli abstract in lingua italiana e/o inglese che indicheranno: nome e cognome, indirizzo di posta elettronica, titolo dell’intervento e un breve curriculum vitae et studiorum (max 2000 battute, spazi inclusi).
