This is the first conference organised by the UK Speechwriters' Guild and will focus on the theme, "Why is there no British Obama?". Among the subjects discussed will be the teaching of rhetoric in schools, the training of speechwriters, and American versus British approaches to political communication. The lead speaker will be Professor Max Atkinson, a Visiting Professor at the Henley Management College, other speakers will include politicians, academics and practising speechwriters. The conference will be held at the Arts University College, Bournemouth on Friday 18 September 2009.
