On 12 and 13 June 2009 the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe will be holding its annual conference on the topic of sexuality and social control in the cities of Eastern and Central Europe in the nineteenth-twentieth centuries with a special focus on the discourses of the "deviant."
More than 20 renowned scholars will participate in the conference. Topics include, but are not limited to: homosexuality, prostitution, sex crimes and white slaving. Special attention will be paid to the issue of the trade of women in modern Ukraine.
The conference is being organized in cooperation with the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies, University of Alberta and the Center for Austrian Studies, University of Minnesota.
Conference languages are English and Ukrainian.
