The 54th Annual Congress of the Historical Society of Nigeria on SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN NIGERIA

The Council of the Historical Society of Nigeria is pleased to announce the 54th edition of its annual conference on "Social Movements in Nigerian History", which takes place on 12th-14th October, 2009. The conference will be hosted by the Department of History, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nigeria.
Researchers with an active interest in Nigerian history, who wish to be part of the conference are invited to send abstracts of their papers to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) by 30th June 2009.
Interested participants are encouraged to focus on, but not limit themselves to, any of the following sub-themes:
- Conceptual, theoretical and methodological issues in Social Movements.
- Origins of Social Movements in Nigeria.
- The manifestations of Social Movements in the Colonial Period.
- Regional perspectives of Social Movements (Northern, Southern, Middle belt etc).
- Social Movements in the post independence Nigeria.
- Economic deregulation and Social Movements.
- Political reform and Social Movements.
- Gender Driven Social Movements.
- International Developments and Social Movements.
- The changing role of the State and Social Movements.
- Security and Social Movements.
- Comparative perspectives on Social Movements.
- The intersection of Social Movements, Civil societies and nongovernmental organizations.
- Prognosticating on the future of Social Movements, etc
Abstract of papers bearing the participant's name, institution and e-mail address should be submitted to [historycongress@yahoo.com] on or before 30th June 2009. Completed papers should be e-mailed to the same address on or before 31st August 2009.
