How are cultures and experiences portrayed by those without insider knowledge? How can scholars best address translation across national, linguistic, cultural, historical or other borders? Why is it important to pursue multinational and multilinguistic studies in today’s world, particularly within the discipline of Comparative Literature?
These are some of the questions that Comparative Literature poses. We now invite graduate students and faculty from all institutions to join us in a broad discussion of these and related issues at a conference organized by Comparative Literature graduate students next October at the University of Georgia. Our day long conference will feature presentations limited to twenty minutes.
We are currently considering all abstracts having to do with the broader topic of extrinsic perspectives, and we are especially interested in papers dealing with the following:
**The Americanization of World Cultures
**Engaging Religion and Spirituality Across Political Boundaries
**Reaching Across Time Barriers: Temporality as a Cultural Border
