We are glad to sponsor the second WOJUSS International Symposium this year. Since we held the first symposium in June 2008, world conditions have changed radically with the likes of the US subprime loan problem that emerged boldly last year and spread to other countries in the form of a financial crisis. More than before, the US and Japan must deal together, flexibly and resolutely, to confront the once in a century crisis we now face, by deploying profound knowledge of the workings of the world.
This time, the symposium participants will include scholars from the US, such as Professor Edward Lincoln, New York University, as well as two experts from China. We intend to discuss vital global issues not only from the Japan-and-US point of view, but also from a broader Asian perspective.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again at Waseda Campus.
