CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
“Sex and Hip-Hop Beyond Misogyny”
Words. Beats. Life: The Global Journal of Hip-Hop Culture invites scholars, students, artists, poets and other creative writers and practitioners to submit nuanced takes on gender and sexuality within hip-hop culture for its forthcoming issue, “Sex and Hip-Hop Beyond Misogyny”. Topics may include (but are not limited to) sex trafficking, sexual education, hip-hop and sex in film and literature, queer hip-hop, boyhood and girlhood, and representations of the body.
Traditionally, hip-hop scholarship and commentary have focused on the misogynist and sexist nature of cultural products. The Journal hopes to push ideas about sex and hip-hop beyond simple investigations of misogyny in this issue.
ABOUT THE WBL JOURNAL
The WBL journal initially came to life as a venue through which the contributions of Hip-Hop culture could be explored within the Academy. The Journal has since become a vehicle to showcase graffiti, graphic art, photography, poetry, short stories, scholarly reviews, and essays. It is used by professors in the classrooms of universities and community colleges, but also as a teaching tool in high schools and middle schools in the District of Columbia through the WBL Urban Arts Academy and other partner institutions.
For more information regarding the WBL Journal and the process for submissions, please visit: http://www.wblinc.org/Journal.htm.
Submissions and inquiries can be sent to submissions@wblinc.org or simone@wblinc.org.
