ManuScript peer-reviewed interdiscplinary postgraduate journal, University of Manchester, 2009 issue: 'Urges'
Call for Papers Deadline:
ManuScript is the peer-reviewed journal in English and American Studies from the University of Manchester. Since 1996, it has encouraged rigorous intellectual discussion and progressive research which reflects critical debates across a variety of disciplines. It aims especially to promote the work of postgraduates and early career academics, and to provide a forum for intellectual and cultural concerns.
ManuScript?s next journal edition, following on from the conference held on 20th February 2009, will be on the topic of ?Urges?. We hope that the theme will encourage and allow room for a wide variety of responses from different discourses and fields.
From the conference?s papers and the discussion engendered, some suggestions for approaches might include, though are not restricted to:
- urges and psychoanalysis: drive, desire, compulsion
- criminalising, politicising, or pathologising urges
- urges, agency and intention
- associations with the primal; or, urges as authentic, incontrovertible, justifiable.
- urges and ideology
- tropes of display and concealment
- urge as address; discourses of appeal
- urge in religion and ritual
- urgency (political currency; relation to technology; temporality and the imperative)
- urge and excess
Articles of up to 4,500 words should be emailed to the editors at email@example.com by June 30th 2009. Further information about ManuScript journal, the call for papers, and the peer review process, can be found on the website, via www.arts.manchester.ac.uk/manuscripturges.
