“Feminist Interpretations of Mary Astell”
Pennsylvania State University Press’s “Re-Reading the Canon”
We are pleased to announce that Pennsylvania State University Press has agreed to include "Feminist Interpretations of Mary Astell" in its “Re-Reading the Canon” series. As its co-editors, we invite submissions on Astell’s philosophical and political views. We welcome papers that:
link her with other theorists and political and philosophical traditions, explicate particular themes central to her writings,
present reconstructions of her arguments, apply her ideas to contemporary feminist issues, discuss the reception and analysis of her ideas over time, and look broadly at her writings (projects, for example, that put her epistemology or metaphysics into conversation with her politics or religion).
Those interested in submitting an essay for this volume should send an abstract (500-700 words) and curriculum vitae by May 10, 2009.
Based on the overall fit with the project and the balance among specific chapters, we will invite 3,000-word drafts to be submitted by December 1, 2009, after which time the ultimate acceptance decisions will be made.
Authors whose submissions are accepted on the basis of their preliminary drafts will have until May 1, 2010 to complete their essays (up to 8,500 words). Inquiries, abstracts, and submissions should be sent electronically to both editors:
Penny Weiss: pweiss1@slu.edu,
Alice Sowaal: asowaal@sfsu.edu.
