Proposals are invited for papers and panels. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
• the Seven Years' War: the first global conflict
• impact of the war on the aboriginal peoples of North America, the inhabitants of New France and subsequently French Canada, British settlers in America and, later, English Canada, and the future destiny of the American colonies
• empire, globalization, and commerce and commercial rivalry
• the cultural impact of the war, including literary and artistic representations
• waging war in the eighteenth century: practices and representations
• Anglo-French relations in the eighteenth century: cultural emulations and imperial rivalries
• cultural cosmopolitanism in the eighteenth century: travel, artistic connoisseurship, literary and scientific correspondence, literary translation, etc.
• cultural anniversaries: the birth of Samuel Johnson in 1709; Robert Burns and Friedrich Schiller in 1759; the death of Georg Friedrich Handel in 1759; the suppression in France of the Encyclopédie in 1759; and the publication in 1759 Burke's Philosophical Enquiry (2nd edition), Johnson's Rasselas, Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments, Sterne's Tristram Shandy (vols. 1-2), and Voltaire's Candide, etc.
