The History Department at Sam Houston State University is pleased to announce the Sixth Annual Joan Coffey Symposium in conjunction with the First Annual Medicine & the Social Sciences & Humanities Conference on April 16 - 17, 2009 in Huntsville, Texas. The featured speaker this year is historian David Oshinsky, who will be discussing his Pulitzer prize winning book, _Polio: An American Story_ (Oxford University Press, 2005). Additional papers will address the links between medicine and the social sciences and humanities, and introduce historian James Olson’s book _Making Cancer History: Disease and Discovery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2009).
