Fabricating the Body: Race and the Body
This M/MLA session will explore constructions of race as particularized in physical as well as cultural fabrications of the body. Explorations of the ways race inflects the body in gendered or ethnic spaces are welcome, as are studies of racial constructions of the criminal, sexual, medical, or historical body.
All topics dealing with literature or cultural studies from any time period or area will be considered, but papers adhering most closely to the convention theme of “migration” will be given preference.
Please send a 250-word (max) abstract of your paper or project to Cammie M. Sublette: csublett@uafortsmith.edu.
The M/MLA Convention will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, November 12-15, 2009. Visit http://www.uiowa.edu/~mmla/ for more information.
