Hello colleagues and fellow students,
We are trying to put together a session of papers for the meeting of the Society for Medical Anthropology, which will take place September 24-27, 2009 at Yale University. Broadly, we are looking for papers that explore the links between health and consumption, potentially addressing any of the following questions: To what extent is health a factor in choosing what and how to consume? How do varied
ideas or definitions of health influence consumption? What are the unique ways that people link the act of consumption to health and well-being? Other topics/ideas might include consumption of drugs/pharmaceuticals, patterns of consumption, changing consumption habits, the marketing of well-being and/or success, consumption of alternative medical systems, consumption of technology and health
technology, deviant consumption, media/advertising and health, or theoretical papers, for example. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is April 15, with a 200-word
limit for abstracts. If you are interested, please reply to me, Stacey Giroux, at girouxs@ufl.edu, as soon as possible. Thank you!
