The First Annual Celebration of Punjabi
at UBC, Vancouver

Harjit K. Sidhu
Saturday, April 4, 2009
Reception 5 pm * Event 6-8:30 p.m.
In the UBC Asian Centre Auditorium, 1871 West Mall, UBC Vancouver
This evening event will bring together writers, students, scholars and the community in the celebration of the vibrant life of Punjabi at UBC and in Greater Vancouver. Alyssa Ayres (Ph.D. Chicago) will present on the life of Punjabi in Pakistan, and a panel discussion of local Punjabi media experts will be held. Winners of a student Punjabi essay competition and a local writer, Gurcharan Rampuri, will be given awards.
SOUTH ASIAN LANGUAGES PLAYHOUSE
1:30-4:30 p.m.
In the UBC Asian Centre Auditorium, 1871 West Mall, UBC Vancouver
The Celebration of Punjabi will be accompanied by a more general celebration of South Asian studies at UBC, the South Asian Languages Playhouse, featuring plays and other student performances in Sanskrit, Hindi/Urdu, and Punjabi on the afternoon of April 4 (from 1:30-4:30 pm).
