The Midwest Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association will hold its annual conference at the newly restored Book Cadillac Westin in Detroit, Michigan. The conference will run Friday-Sunday, October 30-November 1, 2009. In addition to numerous panels, the conference will feature an evening reception, a guest speaker and luncheon, the annual business meeting, and a book sale.
The area of Subculture seeks topics dealing with subcultural expression in music, cinema, or other "popular" forms of expressions which operate on the fringes of society, whether aesthetically, politically, or philosophically. Current topics may include, but are not limited to, “radical” post-presidential election movements, civil rights during the 1960s and now, musical politics or political music, and emerging American radicalism.
