Europäische Geschichte Online (EGO) / European History Online is a cooperation project of the Institute of European History in Mainz, the Competence Centre for Electronic Publication Procedures in the Humanities, University of Trier, and the Bavarian State Library Munich. It is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The project aims to set up a reviewed and innovative history of modern Europe from a transcultural perspective realised in international and interdisciplinary cooperation. At the same time it seeks to explore and utilize new modes of e-publishing in the humanities. Main editors are the directors of the Institute of European History, Professor Irene Dingel and Professor Heinz Duchhardt.
European History Online publishes articles on transcultural/transnational processes of communication, circulation, entanglement and transfer in European history (c. 1450-1950) and interlinks them with multimedia items (images, maps, charts, audio and video files, etc.) and scholarly online resources. Participants (reviewers, authors) are noted scholars from various fields of research:
art history, church history, Eastern European history, economic history, ethnology, European and international history, gender studies, intellectual history, Islamic studies, Jewish studies, history of law, literary studies, modern and contemporary history, media history, history of medicine, history of migration, military history, history of music, history of science, social history, history of technology.
European History Online pursues the policy of Open Access. The public launch is scheduled for 2010.
