We invite scholarly contributions for an edited volume on the movie trilogy Shrek. Shrek has been one of the most successful entertainment features over the past decade. The trilogy provides richly textured analogies to contemporary and historical forms of social, political and economic order. In many ways, it presents radical and subversive narratives that challenge these orders.
The volume will be edited by Drs. Aurélie Lacassagne, Tim Nieguth and François Dépelteau (Laurentian University, Canada). We welcome submissions on any social, political or economic aspect of the Shrek trilogy and its impact on contemporary society. Analytical perspectives may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Popular culture and politics
- Political economy
- Psychoanalysis
- Sociology and politics of gender
- Sociology and politics of the body
- Film studies and cultural studies
Papers should be submitted via email to alacassagne@laurentian.ca as Microsoft Word attachments. They should be original work and must not be under review or accepted for publication elsewhere. Papers should not exceed 6,000 words (including notes and bibliography), be double-spaced throughout and use APA style. Notes should be kept to a minimum and placed as endnotes. Papers should preferably be submitted in English, but submissions in German and French will also be considered. The language of publication will be English; authors of accepted papers will be responsible for any necessary translations.
Please include a short biographical statement (3-4 lines) and full contact information with your submission.
Submission deadline: 15 July 2009.
