The BEYOND programme will present the following lecture series to contextualize the themes of tradition and innovation:
Saskia Kersenboom, Associate Professor of Theatre Studies (UvA) - NL
location: Dancestreet, Eerste Rozendwarsstraat 10, Amsterdam.
Wednesday February 25, 9:30 AM “Alla” - the vital difference.
In this lecture Saskia Kersenboom would like to focus on the third modality of being in Dravidian languages (Tamil, Malayalam a.o.). This third modality of alla - ‘to be different’ opens a lot of possibilities towards flexibility and the creative adaptability of/by tradition.
Wednesday March 11, 19:00 Tradition-Change: Langage – the synergy of words, sounds and images. This lecture will focus on the linguistic category of: langage. This inroad follows more or less Foucault in his Archaeology of the Human Sciences; here the potentialities of ‘language’ unfold in the differing rela¬tions between the ‘words’ and the ‘things’. Langage transforms from its ancient, sensuous relationship to the world into the classical grammars of langue and its subsequent modern developments, until we encounter langage again in dramatic performance that aims, once more, to realize its full, interactive potential.
Wednesday March 18, 19:00 Orality vs Literacy: “the company you keep”.
In this final lecture Saskia Kersenboom will focus on the transformations from Orality into Literacy and today into Secondary Orality of Interactive Multi Media. Questions of Design and User Interface reign supreme here.
Chris Ziegler, media artist – Germany
location: University Theater, Nieuwe Doelenstraat 16, Amsterdam
Tuesday March 10th 11.00-13.00 New media design and dance.
