The University of Bonn cordially invites scholarship applications from graduate and PhD students to its interdisciplinary, four-week summer program, the 16th Transatlantic Summer Academy (TASA).
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, 2009’s TASA “Bridging Borders and Facing New Frontiers”, will deal with walls and borders, both with regard to their historic and literal, as well as their symbolic meanings.
Seize the opportunity to exchange ideas about transatlantic relations and European integration with international experts from academia, politics, international organizations, business and the media, as well as with TASA participants from a variety of different academic and cultural backgrounds. Join us on our travels to Berlin, Frankfurt/ Oder, Poznan, Aachen, Brussels and Strasbourg, where you will have the opportunity to discuss current issues with representatives from German, European and international institutions.
TASA’s lectures, seminars, panel discussions and simulation games, as well as excursions, will focus on the past, present and future of so very different border regions as the German-German, the French-German, the Polish-German border and the “Euregio Maas-Rhein”, the transnational cooperation of communities around the border triangle Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. We will further examine frontiers symbolically as challenges facing our globalized world as a whole, as well as each and every one of us.
Applications will be accepted through March 22, 2009.
