The English Department and the Graduate Students in English (GSE) at the University of Arkansas invite paper submissions for presentation at a co-sponsored graduate student conference to be held at the U of A on Friday, March 27th and Saturday, March 28th, 2009. Submissions from in-state scholars may be on any topic in the humanities, while submissions from out-of-state should focus on aspects of Arkansas literature and culture, broadly defined. The conference will feature plenary sessions each day, with lectures by Professors Terrence T. Tucker and M. Keith Booker. The 2009 Conference on Literature and the Humanities in Arkansas comes in advance of a new academic journal—the Arkansas Literary Review—which will be based at the University of Arkansas, and headed up by students and faculty in the English Department. Abstracts of papers for submission to the conference should be 300 words or less, should be accompanied by a brief curriculum vitæ, and should be sent as Microsoft Word attachments to ach001@uark.edu or jfayres@uark.edu. The deadline for submissions is March 6th, 2009.
