GRADUATE CENTRE FOR EUROPE, University of Birmingham, UK.
Annual Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Conference.
16 – 18 April 2009.
"EUROPE: A CONTINENT OF PARADOXES" History, Politics, Culture, Language, Geography, Economics and Law
Researching Europe’s past, present and future brings us face to face with a number of apparently irreconcilable contradictions. However, the very factors that have pulled, and continue to pull us apart drive our understanding of what it means to be European. Or do they?...
The conference will focus on how and where internal differences and similarities manifest themselves. It will question the extent to which different degrees of divergence and convergence are displayed in the historical, current and future development of Europe’s structures, practices and identities.
This conference will bring together postgraduate researchers from a variety of disciplines in an attempt to learn from other academic approaches and to share one’s own with other researchers. The conference will encourage an open-minded exchange of ideas about topics we often consider to be embedded in our own disciplines.
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS: 27 February 2009
