The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography seeks manuscripts for a special issue on Pennsylvanians and the World: A Transnational Perspective, to be published in October 2010. As a state known historically for its pluralism and ethnic diversity and that boasted one of British America’s busiest seaports, Pennsylvania has always been linked to the Atlantic world and beyond. Through trade, migration and return migration, scientific interest, abolitionism, travel, and much more, Pennsylvanians, from the 18th century to the 21st century, have both been informed by those connections and impacted the world beyond the commonwealth’s borders. This issue of PMHB will examine the role that Pennsylvania and Pennsylvanians have played in, as well as how Pennsylvanians thought about and perceived their connection to, the wider world throughout the commonwealth’s history.
Articles should be approximately 35 pages in length, double spaced, including footnotes, and should conform to the Chicago Manual of Style. Submissions should be sent to Tamara Gaskell in Microsoft Word format by e-mail attachment to pmhb@hsp.org by March 1, 2009.
