I am co-organizing a panel for the Western Society for French History (Oct. 22-25, 2009) on religious women and confinement/claustration. Topics could include theological/legal rationales for claustration, the application of regulations to individual communities, the extent to which such regulations impacted women’s lives, etc. We are especially interested in papers that focus on late Medieval or Modern France or French-speaking territories.
