The conference will present research on the activities of the Einsatzgruppen and witness testimony from the mass killings in Ukraine, discussion of the post-war trials of the Einsatzgruppen, as well as subsequent efforts at memorialization. The program will include reflection on the role of bystanders during the Holocaust and conclude with a discussion of contemporary genocides in other countries, and the disturbing role neighbors play as perpetrators and bystanders to these atrocities.
Speakers include Prof. Omer Bartov of Brown University, Prof. Wendy Lower of Towson University, and Ms. Jacqueline Murekatete, a Rwandan survivor of the genocide of her ethnic group, the Tutsis.
The conference will conclude with dinner.
