The English Department at Suffolk County Community College on Long Island will be holding its Second Annual Creative Writing Festival April 25th, 2009. The Festival brings together students, poets, novelists, short story writers, dramatists, creative non-fiction writers, and creative writing professors for an engaging day of workshops, panel discussions, readings, and events. Some of last year's participants included Brock Clarke, Judy Baumel, Josh Gidding, Victor LaValle, Lawrence Epstein, and Julie Sheehan. This year, the Creative Writing Festival Committee seeks proposals from interested writers, faculty, and graduate students of the following nature:
1. Panel sessions--on any topic of interest to creative writing students and instructors at the high school, college, and graduate level. Panel proposals should include a list of panelists/presenters, and working paper titles.
2. Writing workshops--getting students, writers, and instructors inspired and writing with new, interesting, and successful one hour workshops. All genres will be considered, but we're particularly interested in short fiction, poetry, and the essay. If you have a "stand alone" workshop that works particularly well, we are interested in hearing about it.
All panel and workshop proposals should fit within an hour and ten minute timeframe: one hour for the session and ten minutes for Q and A.
We certainly encourage you to consider these guidelines as broadly and as creatively as possible.
All proposals, as well as any questions or inquiries, should be directed to the Creative Writing Festival Committee at cwfest@gmail.com no later than March 1st, 2009. Please include a brief bio when responding.
