“1968 Across Oceans, Islands, and Continents”
A multitude of social movements across the planet rose in defiant opposition to their various governments during the late 1960s and many reached a historic crescendo during the year 1968. The uncanny synchronicity of these diverse rebellions suggests that major global forces or processes were at work during a year that many historians have interpreted as a caesura in post-1945 world history. In keeping with the AHA’s theme “Oceans, Islands, Continents” for its upcoming meeting in 2010, this posting invites scholars to submit proposals that explore the international dimensions of the social upheavals that rocked the globe in 1968. In particular, scholars whose research focuses on the comparative or transnational dimensions of the 1968 revolts are invited to send the following information to the session chair, Stuart J. Hilwig:
* Paper title
* Abstract (up to 300 words)
* Biographical paragraph or c.v. summary (up to 250 words)
* Correct mailing and e-mail address
If you are interested in submitting an abstract, please send it by February 11, 2009 so that the chair has time to submit the session proposal to the AHA.
