The Department of Geography, University College Cork, in association with the Geographical Society of Ireland (GSI), will host the Annual Conference of Irish Geographers 2009.
This year's theme will be Irish Geographies: prospect and retrospect. In the context of the rapid transformations that have impacted on Ireland and the ‘Irish World', this conference offers an opportunity to reflect on key achievements and new directions in approaches to Irish geographies. We invite papers that evaluate progress on the research agenda, papers that consider new research areas, and papers engaged with current research which indicates the future of discipline. In keeping with the inclusive traditions of the annual meeting, the conference also provides opportunities for new and established researchers to report on ongoing research in any area. Research papers from graduate students are especially encouraged. The conference is also keen to welcome and promote international speakers. Our idea of ‘Irish Geographies' is ‘unbounded'. We encourage papers that look at comparative issues, interdisciplinary questions and critical approaches to a broad set of international and national challenges and concerns.
