Commencing in late Spring 2009, Freeport Historical Society (Freeport, Maine) is hosting a summer-long exhibit entitled “From Rebel to de rigueur” – a 40-year history of the tee-shirt. It is our organization’s 40th anniversary, hence the selection of the decades between 1969-2009 (Woodstock to Obama—quite an eventful span!)
Our own collection only holds a few tees so we will invite the public to submit their tees in four or five categories which we develop (i.e. community-building, corporate, etc.)
To launch the exhibition we are hosting a panel of academics to discuss the multi-dimensional role of the tee-shirt in our culture and globally. To date Dr. Ardis Cameron (University of Southern Maine) and Dr. Erica Rand (Bates College, Lewiston, Maine) have agreed to participate.
If you would be interested in participating in our panel discussion, please let me know (207) 865.3170. We have applied for funding which includes a stipend and travel reimbursal.
Thank you for considering participation in our program. And, Happy Holidays,
