The animal, within the sphere of humans’ needs defines a new tradition within GRIDA. This international event deals with a wide range of topics or research issues related to the legal condition or welfare of animals. Although it is mainly a scientific activity of legal nature, the aim of the conference is to welcome researchers from other disciplines – such as biology, ecology, philosophy and sociology –, all concerned with the use and exploitation of animals by human beings, sources of animal sufferings they wish to avoid or, at the very least, minimise.
Three main topics of common interest will then be covered at the conference: (i) definition of juridical instruments for animal species protection in national or international order, (ii) definition of use and exploitation modes which integrate an ethical or environmental dimension, and (iii) development of new norms stemming from recognition and respect of the animal condition.
Those who wish to participate in the conference are invited to submit, prior to December 31, 2008, a proposal containing:
- Article title;
- Author’s name(s) and affiliation;
- Contact details including mailing and e-mail addresses, telephone and fax numbers;
- Single-spaced summary of about 350 words;
- A maximum of 3 key words.
