ANNUAL SPRING CONFERENCE 2009
“Translations/Transgressions”

Keynote Speaker: Author Marianne Noble, Professor of English at American University
Location: Towson University, Towson, MD
For this year’s conference we will consider conjointly the themes of translations and transgressions. We invite papers or panels on literature, language, cultural studies, composition, and pedagogy that contemplate these themes both within the discipline of English and in other areas of the humanities. We encourage interdisciplinary papers and panels. Proposals may broadly interpret the conference themes along (but not confined to) the following lines:
• Speaking in Tongues: Bilingualism in the Classroom
• Ethnicity and Transgression
• Breaking all the Rules: A Return to Grammar?
• Forbidden Fruit and Original Sins
• Vernaculars and Idioms
• The Translator as Traitor
• Translating Gender
• Social Contracts and Cultural Transgressions
• Metamorphoses (Ovidian and otherwise)
• Cybertranslations
Please email your paper abstracts (of 500 words or less) or panel proposals by Dec. 15 to f-marshj@mail.vjc.edu , Joe Marshall, Program Committee Chair, (443)334-2491. A conference registration/CEA-MAG membership fee of $40 ($30 for adjunct instructors and $20 for graduate students) will be required when you mail in your registration for the conference in the spring of 2009.

Paper Proposals should include the following information:
• Name
• Institutional affiliation (if applicable; graduate students should identify themselves to be eligible to compete for $50 prize for best grad student paper)
• Mailing address (including zip code)
• Phone number
• E-mail address
• Title for the proposed presentation
• Abstract of no more than 500 words (papers at the conference should be limited to 15 minutes)
• A-V needs, if any
• Special needs, if any.
