The T.S. Eliot International Summer School welcomes to Bloomsbury all with an interest in the life and work of this Bloomsbury-based poet, dramatist, and man of letters. It is hosted by the Institute of English Studies of the University of London, which has a national research promotion and facilitation mission for advanced study and research across the field of English studies.
The Academic Programme will bring together some of the most distinguished scholars of T.S. Eliot and Modern Literature, including Jewel Spears Brooker, Robert Crawford, Anthony Cuda, Denis Donoghue, Jennifer Formichelli, Lyndall Gordon, John Haffenden, Jason Harding, Sir Frank Kermode, Christopher Ricks, Ronald Schuchard and others soon to be named.
On Saturday, 27 June students and participants will be welcomed at a reception and buffet, followed by the official opening of the School by the Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney. During the week there will be poetry readings by two additional winners of the T.S. Eliot Prize. On Sunday morning, students will be taken by coach to Little Gidding, where we will share lunch and an intellectual programme with members of the T.S. Eliot Society and Friends of Little Gidding.
From Monday to Friday, the School will present two lectures each morning on all aspects of Eliot's Life and work. Students then choose one from a variety of afternoon seminars for a week-long, in-depth study under the guidance of a seminar leader.
On Saturday, 4 July members of the School will be taken by coach to Burnt Norton for lunch, a lecture, and a discussion programme in the grounds.
Further information about the summer school, tuition fees, and details about accommodation, can be found at the website or by contacting the Institute.
