Vietnamese language programs at ANU
Vietnamese is the home language of nearly more than 180,000 people in Australia. It is the language taught at high schools and Saturday community schools. At the Faculty of Asian Studies, College of Asia and The Pacific, The Australian National University, there is the language program (for non-natives) comprising of 6 levels, from elementary to advanced ones. There are also “Vietnamese for Nationals” courses offered for heritage students apart from translation courses and a non-language course “Contemporary Vietnam Society”. Students majored in Vietnamese can take the degree program leading to Bachelor of Asian Studies. From 2009 onwards, there are online Vietnamese courses for cross-institutional or off-campus enrolments. Flexible delivery modes are also found in-country tuitions (offered in Vietnam for a 6- weeks’ time, either in June or January) which enable students to expose themselves to the target language and its culture. Vietnamese majored students are also encouraged to take “A Year-in-Vietnam” which upon completing, they are awarded with Graduate Diploma in Asian Studies.
