Call for Papers: American Studies area
Southwest/Texas Popular Culture / American Culture Associations
30th Annual Conference, February 24-28, 2009 in Albuquerque, New Mexico
The 2009 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Further details about the conference are available at http://swtxpca.org.
Sessions now forming for the “American Studies” area. Email 250-word abstracts for individual presentations—or 500-word abstracts for panel proposals—to Area Chair Paul D. Reich (English Department, Rollins College) at preich@rollins.edu. Please include a current CV or bio. The final deadline for proposals is December 15, 2008.
Scholars, teachers, professionals, and others interested in American Studies are encouraged to participate. Graduate students are particularly welcome with award opportunities for best graduate papers.
Panels and individual presentations in the broad area of American Studies should be concerned with the cultures of the United States, but comparative studies and/or perspectives on the transnational, global nature of American culture are also welcome. Given the location of the conference, work on the American West is especially encouraged. Regardless of subject, presentations in this area should be interdisciplinary, drawing from multiple methodologies and perspectives.
All presenters, once accepted, must register by December 31, 2008. Registration is available online at SW/TX PCA/ACA website: http://swtxpca.org. All participants who register on or before November 15 will receive a discounted rate, while those registering between November 16 and December 31 will pay the full conference rate. Hotel reservation information can also be found on the website.
