Transform, Transmute, Transgress: Blurring the Boundaries of Material Culture

The Graduate Student English Association of Arizona State University is currently soliciting panel and paper abstracts for the 14th annual Southwest Graduate English Symposium. This year’s theme is Transform, Transmute, Transgress: Blurring the Boundaries of Material Culture. We welcome undergraduate and graduate submissions on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:
Literature and the “canon” - Linguistics and languages - Rhetoric and Composition - ESL - Philosophy - Psychology and Sociology - New History - Pedagogy - Literacy - Religion - Feminism - Queer Theory - Transgender Studies - Disability Studies - Performance Studies - Body Politics - Ethnic Studies - CRT - Multi-culturalism - Post/Colonialism - Border Studies - Issues of Aging - Film Studies - Visual Arts - The Avant-garde (theater, film, etc.) - Technology Issues
The conference will take place March 27th and 28th, 2009, at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.
The deadline for panel proposals is December 15th, 2008. Proposals should be no more than 500 words.
The deadline for paper abstracts is December 15th, 2008. Abstracts should be between 250-500 words.
The conference also annually awards the Sonoran prize for an outstanding creative writing piece and the Doebler award for an outstanding Renaissance studies paper. If you would like your paper to be considered for either award, indicate so in your submission and more information will be provided to you.
