The XXVIII Meeting of the APHES (Portuguese Economic and Social History Association) will be held in the 21 and 22 November 2008, at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor in the city of Guimarães. This year it will be hosted by the Department of History of the Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the University of Minho. The event counts 30 sessions, 120 papers, and participants include researchers from Portugal, Sapin and other European countries, Brazil, and the US.
Our key note conference will be given by professor Woodruff Smith, University of Massachusetts, Boston, under the title "Respectability and Consumer Culture in the Nineteenth Century". A prize for the best paper presented at the conference shall also be awarded by a jury formed by the conference´s scientic committee.
