2nd CALL FOR PAPERS
“The Silhouette of War: The Role of War and the Military in Shaping Society”
2009 International Security and Internal Safety Conference
Hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi Department of History
On 21-22 February 2009, USM’s Center for the Study of War and Society, in conjunction with USM’s Phi Alpha Theta chapter and with support from the Society for Military History, will host the 2009 International Security and Internal Safety (IS/IS) Conference in Hattiesburg, MS. This conference seeks scholars and graduate students from diverse fields including History, International Security, and Political Science. Topics should focus on the role of the military and warfare in shaping and defining society and culture throughout history.
Individual paper proposals should include a 250-word abstract and a one-page CV. Panel proposals are welcome and should include a 150-word panel abstract detailing the theme, as well as 250-word paper abstracts and CVs for each presenter. The deadline for proposal submissions will be 30 November 2008. Final papers should be submitted to commentators by 1 February 2009. Anyone interested in chairing or commenting on a panel may also submit their CVs to be considered by 15 December 2008.
Final papers should be drafted for a presentation no longer than 20-25 minutes.
