California State University, Fresno and the Central Valley Institute for Regional and Historical Studies, invite proposal submissions for individual academic papers to be presented at the “Kids of the Black Hole: West Coast Punk from Metropolis to Podunk” April 10-11, 2009. Focusing on the music, bands, and participants of the late seventies to mid eighties punk scene, this conference will bring together scholars, musicians, journalists and artists. Papers on the legacy of punk in Los Angeles and San Francisco are welcome. We are also interested in the history of punk in small towns and within ethnic communities. This is an excellent opportunity for faculty, graduate students, and others doing research in this field or related fields to present their work and receive feedback from peers. Interdisciplinary work is welcome.
Proposals should include a 300 word abstract and a short CV (Microsoft Word 97-2003 or RTF format, only), indicating your fields of academic interests. Please indicate whether your presentation requires special equipment (projector, AV). Deadline for proposals is December 15, 2008.
