Drama pedagogy uses techniques from the performing arts to drive forward intense and personalized yet content-oriented learning. Drama pedagogy draws, among others, on the principle of learning by doing, the theory of multiple intelligences, and the conviction that learning is, and must be, the active integration of new subject matter into already existing knowledge. In a variation on Pestalozzi, foreign language learning should happen with “head, heart, hands and feet”, i.e. by integrating cognitive, emotional, practical, and kinesthetic learning dimensions. This panel seeks to investigate innovative scholarship and/or teaching at the intersection of drama/theater and foreign / second language teaching and learning.
